The Court House Inn stands proudly on Thrapston’s High Street, a building woven deeply into the town’s story. Long before it became the warm, welcoming inn people know today, it served as a cornerstone of local authority and community life. Built in the 19th century, the property originally operated as the Thrapston County Police Station, established around 1860 when the Northamptonshire County Constabulary was formed. Its stone construction, outbuildings, and layout once supported police officers, administrative work, and even the original cells.
As the town grew and policing needs changed, the building shifted roles. In the early 20th century, it became Thrapston’s Magistrates Court, continuing its civic purpose for several decades. The rooms that now host guests and gatherings once heard local cases, decisions, and the everyday workings of justice. Even today, traces of that past remain — the current kitchen area was once part of the police station, and the toilets occupy the space where the cells once stood.
By the mid‑20th century, the courthouse closed and the building began a new chapter. It was converted into a hotel and restaurant, eventually becoming The Court House Inn — a name that honours its heritage while embracing its new identity as a place for people to gather, relax, and feel at home.
Today, The Court House Inn blends its rich history with a warm, modern welcome. While the building’s past gives it character, it’s the people who bring it to life — locals who’ve been visiting for years, travellers discovering Thrapston for the first time, and guests staying in our six comfortable en‑suite letting rooms.
We’ve created a space that feels relaxed, friendly, and true to the spirit of a proper English inn. Our bar offers a cosy, familiar atmosphere; our garden provides a peaceful spot in the sunshine; and our Games Room adds a lively touch with pool, darts, and plenty of friendly competition. We’re proud to be family‑friendly, dog‑friendly, and community‑minded — a place where everyone is welcome.
The Court House Inn is more than a pub — it’s a piece of Thrapston’s heritage. Its walls have seen the town evolve, from Victorian policing to mid‑century justice to the vibrant community hub it is today. We honour that history not by preserving it in silence, but by filling the building with life, conversation, and connection.
Whether you’re joining us for a drink, staying overnight, or exploring our events and games room, you’re stepping into a place with stories — and becoming part of its next chapter.
Location, security, homely feel, a home from home. It was quiet for us. My son (10) and I loved how the words on the wall reminded us of my mum his grandmother whom he never met. Higher power moments all the way. Kettle in room and plenty of tea and coffee & milk products.

The room is small but perfect for my requirements. I enjoy the biscuits and Haribo! I like the fact that there is extra milk available on the landing. Having a separate entrance and independent access is great.

This is a lovely listed little pub. Due to its age, it hasn't the feeling of being pristine, but it's ideal for a stay in Thrapston as it's very good value for money. Bed is v comfy, bathroom is v small, but adequate. Staff were v friendly and such a nice little bar to have a couple of cocktails before we set off to our party. We felt v appreciated and would stay again without hesitation due to it's good value for money price.
